Update from the Fire Chief

As we continue to plan for the future, we march closer to breaking ground of our new fire station, located at 24607 S. Eastern Ave (just north of the Township building). We are in the process of finalizing site engineering and building design and plan on going out to bid late summer/early fall.

This location will serve as our new Station 81 and Administrative Headquarters. This station will help us maintain our response times to the downtown response district and help us meet response standards in our north and eastern response districts.

The remodel of Station 83 in Peotone will be complete in July. The remodel will bring that station up to current codes and standards, as well as providing our members with modern technology to ensure adequate emergency notifications and responses.

Station 83 is staffed with 5-6 people 24/7 and will now have a fire station that suits their needs. With the help of Senator Patrick Joyce, we were able to obtain a State of Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity grant in the amount of $250,000 that was dedicated to this remodel project.

We operate with a maximum of 13 firefighters/paramedics per day and are averaging 7-8 calls per day. Due to the significant growth in fire district development, we are working on bolstering our Fire Prevention Bureau and are working towards a strategic plan for the district, which includes succession planning for the future and stakeholder meetings. More information to come regarding the stakeholder meetings.
