Green Garden Township Formalizes Plan Commission Powers Amid Solar Farm Discussions
In a unanimous vote, the Green Garden Township Board has adopted Resolution 2024-002, formally defining the powers and duties of its Plan Commission for the first time in the township’s history.
The resolution, passed 5-0 at the September meeting, establishes a five-member commission structure with representatives from each township quadrant. The move comes at a crucial time as the township faces decisions about solar farm developments.
“Our attorney thought it important to put something together to formalize it,” explained Supervisor Murday, noting the previous lack of official documentation defining the commission’s function.
The timing is particularly relevant as the township is currently involved in discussions with Will County attorneys regarding solar farms, with officials awaiting transcripts of residents’ testimony that referenced the township’s Comprehensive Plan.
Plan Commission Chair Mark Sarkisian reported ongoing pre-applications through the county, while discussions have begun about updating the township’s comprehensive plan, which dates back to 1989.
“We’re exploring potential firms and additional funding sources for updating the comprehensive plan,” Murday added, emphasizing the document’s importance in current and future development decisions.
