Green Garden Township Board Splits on Historic Building Renovation Project
In a divided vote at the September township meeting, the Green Garden Township Board approved a professional services contract with Harbour for the renovation of the township building, highlighting ongoing disagreements about the project’s scope and value.
The measure passed 3-2, with Trustees Wagner and Newton joining Supervisor Murday in support, while Trustees Dietz and Kovar voted against it. The approval allows the project to move forward with construction documents and bid preparation.
“It’s good for the township,” said Trustee Wagner, who made the motion to approve. “It started out making it ADA compliant, but we got a lot of money to make it even better.”
However, Trustee Kovar expressed concerns about the use of grant money and changing plans. “The money isn’t free,” Kovar argued, suggesting the township might be better served by building a cheaper facility or developing a park district.
Representatives from TRIA and Harbour reported that the project is advancing to the construction document phase, with plans for a groundbreaking ceremony and new signage.
